100 years ago Chanel opened its first boutique in Deauville and as of today there are over 300 boutiques around the world. There are 94 in Asia, 70 in Europe, 10 in the Middle East, 128 in North America, 2 in South America, and 6 in Oceania. Chanel is one of the few global brands that can sell many accessories like handbags, fragrance, and cosmetics that help build buzz and feed awareness of the brand. This can explain the success of all the boutiques, and why the world just can’t get enough of those two interlocked letter Cs.
You would think that a large globe on the runway might draw attention from the models, but it could be considered genius to have the models literally walk around the globe sporting long grey and navy plaid coats with upturned collars.
The collection was also full of black, which is classic for Chanel, but Mr. Lagerfeld added metallic weave into suit fabrics which was a fantastic twist.
Shades of rose and navy were also spotted in this Fall/Winter 2013-2014 collection along with thigh-high boots and electric turquoise and baby pink cloche hats. These hats also shaped hairstyles in the 20th century for people like Josephine Baker.
Lagerfeld added a single male model to join the host of women models on the runway. This was clever considering the only two things that run the world according to Beyoncé and Karl Lagerfeld are GIRLS and CHANEL, and who would disagree?! However, this didn’t affect the solitary male model because unlike Phileas Fogg, he journeyed around the world with eighty models and did not have a single hic up with his timing.
