What Happens When We Do Not Forgive?
We are all humans and do things that hurt other people, especially the people we love the most. When we hurt, we often react by acting out at the person who hurt us. If we do not forgive, we continue to experience anger, bitterness, and resentment, along with emotional and physical distress such as self-hatred, drug use, insomnia, eating disorders, self-destructive behavior, and personal conflict.
When we don’t forgive, it will only torment us. It causes you to entertain thoughts of revenge. Not forgiving causes us to fall short of God’s blessings and grace. Not forgiving someone will make you see the failures of others, but not your own. It delays the answers to your prayers. It also makes us vulnerable to be attack by others.
Remember only God judges, we do not! The best thing to do is forgive, forgive, and forgive. Let go of the pain. If we allow ourselves time to process the pain, we can eventually get to the place where forgiveness is possible. We should take as much time as we need to work through our feelings.
