"All empty souls tend toward extreme opinions."~ William Butler Yeats
Facts Versus Their Opinions
Get mad, for what? At something you THINK? It is your opinion. According to multiple dictionary sites, an opinion is a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. That last part of the definition is extremely important, “not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.” You cannot get upset with a person for stating their opinion or vice versa. So what if a person doesn’t like you, your outfit, or how you carry yourself! Who CARES! As long as you are not affecting my livelihood (where I stay, what I eat, or how I live), think what you like! Jesus was perfect (1 Peter 1:19), but he was ridiculed, persecuted and killed by his enemies. If the only perfect man that set foot on this earth was criticized, why would you not be talked about?! You aren’t perfect and neither am I.
You can’t focus your attention on what is being said about you. Once we realize that how a person feels about us doesn’t matter, we can have a lot less drama and stress in our life. Other real life issues, your education, family, and health, are more important than someone’s opinion of you! Most of the time people that have negative opinions of you are jealous; especially if you haven’t given them a reason to be childish. They may be jealous of your appearance, lifestyle, wealth, or intelligence. They want what you have and cannot get it. So they hate you because you are you. If they are talking, you are doing something right! Keep doing you!

In the end, the way to handle this situation IS NOT to fight, but ignore. Pay them absolutely no attention. They may start rumors about you or say mean things to you. Ignore them! Studies have shown that if you ignore someone and/or their behavior, it will stop.

Don’t feed into the situation. Don’t confront them about their opinion. If they don’t like you; SO what, they will live. Remember, they didn't like Jesus and He came to save their souls.
|
Walk away. If they do confront you, leave. Walk away. Once again, this doesn’t make you scary; it makes you smart. Young ladies with class DO NOT FIGHT!
|
Get help. If they are harassing you, tell your teacher or file a police report. This doesn’t make you scary, it makes you smart. You have other important issues in your life. Focus on them.
