THE COMBACK

As we all know fashion is repetitive and some of the styles that our parents wore we are beginning to wear again, like acid washed jeans and high waist pants. The only thing that has changed is the label and how we wear the styles, but besides that everything is the same. I bleached some shorts the other day and thought how just a few years ago this could have been considered as out of style. That’s when I realized that it’s never too late to make a comeback! If the clothes we wear can, then why can’t we? Maybe these shorts were put to rest because they needed time to evolve and catch up with the times. Maybe they had to wait for the right person to realize how awesome they were. The bottom-line is someone had to decide, whether it was in the 80s or today, what these shorts were going to be. As the youth of today I believe we have to take a stand for ourselves and decide who we are and what we want to be before someone else decides for us. Much like the shorts, people see potential in us and may try to make us into things that THEY wants us to be, and it’s not always what we want. Someone on a movie I watched said “Life gets in the way of Living.” Just because life got in your way or you messed up a few or a lot of times still doesn’t give someone the right to tell you who to be, we have to realize the past is the past, realize it’s never too late to make a comeback, take our lives back, and fulfill what we feel in our hearts is our purpose. Just a few months ago I was battling with myself about staying with my biology major track because I felt like was safe and I thought that’s what my family would have wanted me to do. Who wouldn’t want to be related to the pediatrician, but after consulting with a higher being, God, he revealed to me the world of fashion and my passion for it. I haven’t looked back since. I messed up over and over again when I was pretending to want to be a doctor, but when I committed to fashion, doors were being opened that I would have never imagined. I am also happier and less stressed because I am doing something I love to do. It’s never too late to make a comeback. Decide who you are and what you want before someone does it for you.

Be original in everything you are and do.
